Riau Islands to Focus on Potential-Based Territorial Development

Working visit of Commission II of the House of Representatives during the fifth recess period of 2021-2022 at Governor Office’s Wan Seri Beni Hall in Tanjungpinang city, Riau Islands province (07/11)

Provincial Government of Riau Islands Monday (07/11) reinforced commitment to focus on territorial development in seven regencies/cities in the province based on their respective potentials.

The statement was made by Vice Governor of Riau Islands Marlin Agustina while receiving working visit of Commission II of the House of Representatives during the fifth recess period of 2021-2022 at Governor Office’s Wan Seri Beni Hall in the provincial capital of Tanjungpinang.

The seven regencies/cities in question are Tanjungpinang city, Bintan regency, Batam city, Karimun regency, Lingga regency, Natuna regency, and Anambas Islands regency.

According to the Vice Governor, Tanjungpinang city will be developed as a governmental zone, an education center, and the center for Malay culture, halal industry.

In the meantime, Bintan regency will be developed as the center for international tourism, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry, and food management industry.

Batam city will be developed as the center for international transport and logistic, aerospace industry, tourism, digital and creative industry.

Karimun regency will be developed as the center for fisheries and maritime industry, while Lingga regency will be developed as the center for agriculture, plantation, animal husbandry, and tourism.

As Natuna regency, it will be developed as a sea trade route and the center for fisheries and marine affairs, while Anambas Islands regency will be developed as the center for fisheries and tourism.

Marlin added that Provincial Government of Riau Islands has promoted bureaucratic reforms in eight sectors, including change management, regulations, organization, administrations, human resources, accountability, monitoring, and public services.

Commenting on the visit, Speaker of Commission II of the House of Representative Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung underscored that the working visit aims to ensure the implementation of bureaucratic reforms, digitalization, and management of state civil apparatus (ASN) in regional governments in a bid to provide optimum public services to the general public.
